Music at First Church
Choir
Do you love to sing? Want to become friends with some wonderful and caring people who share your passion? Come join a singing group where the emphasis is on the joy of singing and not the pressure of performance.
The First Church Choir is a non-auditioned group open to all adult and teen singers. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM in the Church Sanctuary. The Choir sings during weekly Worship services from the second week of September through the second week of June.
We sing traditional pieces, classical works, seasonal anthems, spirituals, folk music, and modern compositions. This is a place where you can bring your talents and passion without fear of judgement. Here we sing because we love to do it, and we love to share the joy of music with our church and community.
Organ
The Woodbridge First Church of Christ’s organ is an 1881 Tracker-
action 2 manual Pipe Organ that was built by the W. B. Williams Company of New York. The organ was a gift from church member Mrs. Mary Clark Trent in 1891. The organ was refurbished and rebuilt in 1965 by the Noack Organ Company of Andover, MA. It is a magnificent organ worth seeing as you look back from the center aisle of the church or by viewing it up close in the balcony. It is listed in the Organ Historical Society database on their website. Also, there is a picture of the organ from 1965 on the Noack Organ Company website.
It was written in Reverdy Whitlock’s “The Parish of Amity” that in the earliest days of the organ, the organist was assisted by small boys who had the responsibility of pumping air into the pipes through hand-operated bellows.

At First Church we believe music is an exciting and inspiring part of life. Music speaks to our spirits every hour of the day, not just on Sunday mornings. Each year we hold Spring and Fall Concerts for the wider community to celebrate our love of music. We hope you will join us!

Our concerts feature a variety of genres and performers, including nationally and internationally recognized artists. From classical and folks music to jazz and modern composition, you can come hear soulful tunes set against the backdrop of our beautifully restored Sanctuary.
